Dog friendly accommodation on Dartmoor in Devon

Find yourself dog friendly accommodation here on Dartmoor in Devon. Some landladies are happy for you to bring your dog in, and some are happy for you to bring the dog if it will stay in your vehicle overnight. Our own dog Topsy, has always been happy sleeping in the back of our estate car, but I do like to be able tosee the car easily from the house.
If you are booking a hotel or Bed and Breakfast stay, make sure that the owner knows you will be bringing your pet with you, and discuss the needs of the dog before you come, so that there are no awkward moments when you arrive.

Bring your dog's own dog bed and make sure that you pop some clean bedding in your luggage.
If you think your dog might have a problem settling into a strange room, then a good idea is to bring a handful of favourite toys and an item of clothing out of your dirty washing basket at home, a woollen jumper say, so that your reassuring smell will help keep your dog calm.
It pays to keep to the same routine you have at home.
If you take the dog out last thing before you finally turn in at night, at home, then do so on holiday too.
Look out for the green writing on our other holiday pages to know that your dog is welcome either whole heartedly or by arrangement - there might be some reservations. For instance there may be a dog in season at the house already, and that could be tricky!
Pack the dog's feeding bowls, flingers, toys, frisbees and most important of all, the lead for some sections of the Moor. See our walking pages for going out on "walkies!"

Jill says - When I asked Penny if she will take dogs she said "I'm not strict at all but we don’t take dogs in the bedrooms
because that can put non dog lovers off! We have three dogs, which also causes havoc if someone brings their dog in the house.
We have a
large drive for car parking, and if guests leave their dogs in their car overnight, they can see the car from their
bedroom window.
There is plenty of safe outdoor space for dogs to run in". So, sounds perfect to me !!

Have you thought about using a day kennel whilst you are here on holiday ?
Occasionally we need to spend time
without Topsy, like recently when we had a hospital visit to make and we
didn't know how long we would be waiting.
No-one wants to excercise a dog in hospital grounds, so at times like
this, we occasionally book her into one of the local kennels for the day. Pam who runs Northlake Boarding
Kennels near to Okehampton. Topsy loves going to frolick with
all the other dogs at Pam's.
Why not let your dog stay with Pam for the week and you take him/her out just a couple of times ?
That way can see that your dog is happy and have a few days at places where dogs are not welcome such
as the
beach or National Trust properties, without having to worry that the car is in the shade. Brill !
