2 miles out of Chagford offering a suite on the ground floor and rooms above. Impressive house. Fresh flowers throughout summer from their own very beautiful gardens where you are invited to relax. Horse riding locally. Helpful owner keen for you to enjoy your stay.
3 miles out of Tavistock, Susie Pope offers bed and breakfast in a wing of her lovely home. I loved it and immediately thought it was ideal for a honeymoon. A beautiful dual aspect double room with a cute smaller twin room beyond. Private bathroom recently updated. Your own front door, that opens on to the sunniest of balconies overlooking the pretty garden, full of established trees, primroses, bluebells, daffodils and plenty of birdsong going on as I walked round. Breakfast is served within the house in a cosy little sitting room. Walks out on to the Moor and foodie places around. Very nice indeed.
Couldn't get further away from it all if you tried ! Charming barn conversion with the most wonderful guest sitting room complete with minstrel's gallery. No passing traffic. Jenny is an excellent cook, a capable lady who also offers chicken keeping courses. Two Moors Way on the doorstep. Dogs are taken by arrangement.
The Elephant's Nest Inn is a quintessentially English - and Devonshire - country pub. The 3 generously sized en-suite B&B rooms are located in a newly built extension. Beautifully furnished with solid oak floors and under floor heating, all rooms have large Vi-Spring beds, soft goosedown duvets and pillows and luxurious soft furnishings. Being located in as remote a place as it is, great emphasis is placed on good food, although the pretentious 'gastro pub' description will not be heard here! The garden at the Nest is a 'must see'.
This is a pleasantly converted old granary barn on a working farm with impressive views overlooking Hayne Down and up to Bowerman's Nose on the horizon. I'm going to recommend East Hook Holiday Cottages to you without even seeing them. When Ruth rang me to ask if she could come on board, she sounds so passionate about her farm and the way they run the farm that I just know that holidaymakers will enjoy staying with her. It's a farm with beef cattle, sheep, bike rides straight onto cycleway 27, walks galore, Tarka Trail 1/2 mile, a strong green environmental policy, wildlife on the farm, swifts nesting, spring lambs, 3 letting cottages, panoramic views and reasonable prices. Guests are given a welcome pack with free range eggs, sausages, and in season, their own apple juice.
The Coachhouse is set on a lovely farmstead just 2 miles south-west of Lydford. You are invited to go anywhere on the 250 acre working farm and help is always accepted, or alternatively you can enjoy lazing by the outdoor heated swimming pool! If the weather takes a turn for the worse, never fear the Coachhouse has it's own indoor 'endless' pool, sauna and games room. The property has 5 bedrooms (1 ensuite, double, twin, single and children's room with two sets of 3' bunk beds). Tremendous freedom is offered and there are a number of activities for both children and adults. Meals are also available in the owners house that is a B&B.
I paid a visit to Penny at Brook Farmhouse and absolutely loved it! Ancient thatched farmhouse full of charm. Homemade biscuits to have with your tea. Easy access into Exeter. I thought that it had only one bedroom on offer, but actually there are 3 bedrooms which Penny will only let to one party, so it is most frequently used just as a double. Apart from the huge main bedroom there is a spacious double and a child's bedroom, again with a double bed on offer. They share a bathroom, but it's a great space at the top of your own private, steep, charming staircase plus your own roomy guest lounge.
Bed and breakfast in one of Chagford's oldest houses with loads of character. Beams and a real fire in an inglenook fireplace. Very pretty garden with far views to Kestor Rock. Short toddle into town and 4 pubs for good evening meals.
Truly unique Dartmoor location. I'm sure that this is the most remote B&B on my list. Well off the beaten track surrounded by massive views, stretching down into Cornwall. Ponies, sheep, wild flowers and birdsong. Quality B&B on one of the prettiest footpath walks in Devon. Offering 1 en-suite (shower) double room + 2 further rooms sharing a private bathroom (1 family room and 1 twin - flexible accommodation. Good English breakfasts, clean air, massive starlight night skies plus a warm welcome for walkers and families. Stunning, I loved it.
If you can visit this country house in Spring when the primroses are out then you will be in for a treat. 2 of the 3 bedrooms are wonderfully large. There is one room that can be taken as double or a twin, and the Garden Suite has access through French Windows into the most stunning garden with your own private seating area. No need to ask if the breakfast is good when you take a look at Maddy's kitchen. She's happy to take families and you won't find a better garden for tennis or hide and seek.
Super farm for families to take a holiday. Let your children let off steam, collect the eggs and stroke the piglets! Not far from the A30 at Whiddon Down and central for everything that Devon has on offer. They provide 2 really good sized en-suite rooms including a nice large family bedroom overlooking the garden at the rear of the house, guests' sitting room for the evenings. Run by a family with young children of their own.
On the banks of the River Dart on the South of the Moor, you might like to consider this self catering chalet that sleeps 2 plus 2. A minute's drive off the A38 Exeter to Plymouth dual carriageway it comes with a master bedroom double, plus a guest room with camp bed and a bed settee in the lounge. Add to this a large sunny conservatory with decking. Off road parking, all at sensible prices.
