a newly wed bride and groom posing for wedding photos at Postbrige on the clapper bridge. The post office at postbridge in the centre of Dartmoor.

Postbridge with it's famous clapper bridge in the middle of the Moor.

Millions of people will recognise this photo of the old granite bridge at Postbridge. We rarely drive past without seeing visitors posing on it or peering down into the waters of the East Dart river flowing beneath. Small wonder that this newly married couple have come here for some of their wedding photos. It's a pretty spot with a humped back single track bridge almost alongside which offers a good view of the clapper bridge to coach trippers and passing traffic.
Just over the road is the bijou Post Office which has lots to offer, including hot drinks and ice cream topped off with a blob of delicious Dartmoor made clotted cream. Just the stuff to set you up for a walk up to nearby Bellever Forest and up to Laughter Tor. The whole area is littered with footpaths and hut circles. Ideal for horse trekking too. A map is a must.
There is a pub called the East Dart Inn on the eastern side of the bridge. I understand that it has new owners and that they are keen to develop the pub's catering trade. Maybe I should call in to sample the food ? Watch this space!

Late Victorian Country House down a private lane. A super family hotel with attention to detail. Evening meals occasionally.
All well rated by Jill. The 36 acres of grounds extend down to the River. A real get away from it all sort of place.
