Whiddon Down - just off the A30 dual carriageway, the main artery into Cornwall.
There is a well stocked Esso Service area at Whiddon Down with a good range of groceries, Costa coffee,
fuel including for lorries, newspapers, and probably most helpful of all, a cash point which is free to
use for debit cards. The staff are friendly even in the middle of Summer when the place gets full of holidaymakers travelling down to Cornwall. Whiddon Down's Produce Market is held every 4th Saturday of the month
in the Village Hall. 10- noon.Vegetables, summer fruits, lots of jams and chutneys in season.
Pies and home made cakes.... yummy ! See our Farmers Markets page for more information and photos.

There's one pub at Whiddon Down called The Post Inn (see above) that serves food every day.
Including Sunday roasts, and cream teas in the Summer. Open from 11 to 11,
You can climb aboard a bus from here to Exeter one way and Bude on the North coast in the opposite direction as this is an important road junction and the highest point on the A30.
The service area does get crowded at peak Summer periods.
If you can't afford to wait when the traffic is queuing out on to the road, the closest available petrol off the dual carriageway is at Chagford under 5 miles away. BUT do telephone first on 01647 432246 to check that they are open as it's a small family business that closes some. Chagford itself is a small quaint Dartmoor town which is well worth a visit.
££ there is a cash point at the Esso garage, with a free service for debit cards. More Dartmoor cash points.
