Whiddon Down
Just off the A30. North
eastern edge of Dartmoor.
There is an Esso Service area at Whiddon Down with a good range of groceries,
Costa coffee, newspapers, fuel including for lorries, and probably most helpful of all, a cash point which is free to use
for debit cards. There's one pub at Whiddon Down called The Post Inn which serves food every day from 11 to 11.
You can climb aboard a bus from here to Exeter one way and Bude on the North coast in the opposite
direction as this is an important road junction and the highest point on the A30. The service area does get crowded at peak Summer periods. If you cannot afford to wait when the traffic is queuing out on to the road, the closest available petrol is at Chagford just under 5 miles away. BUT Telephone first on 01647 432246 to check that they are open as they are a small family business. Chagford itself is a small quaint Dartmoor town which is well worth a visit.
££ there is a cash point at the Esso garage, alongside the shop.More cash points in the area.
