Widecombe In the heart of Dartmoor with the church - 'the Cathedral of the Moor' standing proud in any view.
Visit the Village market if you can. It is held on the 4th Saturday of each month in the Church House next to the
wonderful church. The National Trust own this and the Sexton's Cottage by the lychgate. The ladies in the Trust shop
are most helpful.Do take time to enter Widecombe church as there are some truly wonderful stained glass windows.
Anyone over the age of 40
will know of the Uncle Tom Cobley legend and can surely sing the song
'Tom Pearce, Tom Pearce lend me your grey mare....'; This poor creature had to take a heavy cargo to Widecombe Fair, as you can see in the picture above.
The date for Widecombe Fair in 2010 is Tuesday 14th of September. Of the two pubs in Widecombe-in-the-Moor, the Rugglestone Inn seen here on the left,
is a real treat with wonderful food. Read my food review of the Rugglestone
and if you visit the pub, be sure to let me know if you agree with me, that it is worth seeking out. Find the closest ££ cash points
