The prestigious
Fox and Hounds Hotel
at Eggesford on the River Taw (A377
Exeter to Barnstaple road) have
recently approached Gary to become their
fishing coach for the 2008 season. The hotel is within 100metres of
the
riverbank
and has some exceptional trout and sea trout fishing. Food is a passion of the owners from traditional
home made classics, like 'Proper' Steak &
Kidney Pudding with hand cut chips to the most beautifully presented a la
carte dish, your
meal will be freshly prepared to order. There is no fast food at the Fox!
The bar has a choice
of 3 local ciders and some mighty fine real ale drawn from the original
beer engines. Just the job after an enjoyable
day's fishing... !!
Kennick
Reservoir
Best areas at the moment are the Dam up to Clampitts with Black and Green
catching well along with Boobies along
the bottom. As April and May progresses and the air temperature warms up
expect to see a lot more activity nearer
the water surface with the trout switching on to the emerging green and
black buzzers that infest the reservoir.
River Otter
Has fished well during the early season with a fair amount of olives on
the water which the trout have
been happy to rise to on the warmer days.
River Teign
Usually takes a while to warm up but has fished consistently well from the
start of the season
with fish coming to both nymphs and drys.
River Taw
Slow start to the season as usual however some good catches of trout have
been made on the bright and warmer days. Expect the bigger seatrout to
start reaching the middle to upper reaches of the river in May.
