John and Bryn working in the sustainable woodland at Hole Station Campsite in Devon, UKhappy campers at Hole Station campsite in Devona tent pitched at Hole Station, an adults only campsite in Devon UKcampers enjoying an alfresco meal at Hole Station campsite in Devon, UK

This campsite is 12 miles off Dartmoor. I'm adding it because it's really worth a mention. To start with it's ADULTS ONLY, set in a secluded woodland and the guys who run it have a great attitude to their surroundings. It's tents only and you are encouraged to make your own campfire. Each pitch has it's own fire pit and fire bench, and for just £6 you can buy a campfire kit with kindling and seasoned wood from their own resources. The money for which goes directly to sustaining the woodland.
They rave about seeing the stars (zero light pollution) an abundance of wildlife and fresh air. SO if you want to have
some time away from children and radios (banned) with barn owls too - take a look at their reviews page.

A family campsite on Dartmoor walker looking for a camp site on Dartmoorsee the camp sites on a google map

Because Dartmoor is such a vast national park we offer the whole range of facilities from youth hostels and camping barns to luxury family holiday parks and everything in between. You are allowed to camp out in the open on Dartmoor
for a night or two, provided you are not within 100metres of a road, and provided you pitch your tent in a sensible
place (the National Park Rangers are allowed to move you if they think that you are not in a sensible spot) but be aware
of likely flooding or free ranging cattle, sheep and horses, and of course stick strictly to the country code at all times.
Do not assume that all water on the Moor is drinkable, there might be a dead animal half a mile upriver...better to be
safe than sorry! You can't just park a caravan overnight on Dartmoor without permission as there are strict byelaws.

If you want the excitement of camping but would like to have a roof over your head and a chance to meet up with
like minded outdoor types then consider Youth Hostelling. These pictures are from the two hostels at Okehampton
where the staff are friendly and there are outdoor activities to have a go at, plus an organised dining room at Klondyke Road. Some of the rooms come with an en-suite shower room ! See my Youth Hostelling page for more information.

caravans in a caravan park on Dartmoor. Plenty of space and tidy grass.

Dartmoor offers both the smaller seasonal location with very few facilities but wonderful scenery and the more
organised holiday parks with shower blocks, free hot water and possibly a shop or swimming pool. Some Dartmoor
farmers even open up a spare field now and again when an annual event is on in the locality such as Widecombe Fair.

simple caravan insurance banner

Just a quick mention about insurance for your caravan. Most sites have public liability to cover you for any accident

on their campsite during your stay, but what happens if you have an accident within your own caravan, or even worse, how would you stand if you invited newly made friends into your caravan and they had a accident ? You might like to consider getting some insurance to cover that. If so, then take a look at this company above and see what you think.

Camping pods the latest news in camping

We have some great camp sites on Dartmoor You can find some of these new camping pods,
sometimes called wooden tents, at a couple of our campsites, and I reckon they will become very popular.
It's camping without bringing the tent. Everything else all your camping gear, stove, beds, table, are needed, as the
pods are empty except for a carpet, a blind of the window, a heater and a window at the rear. But look, they have a seating deck in front of the large windows and the ones at Langstone Manor (see details above) are priced from £35 per night for a smaller sleeps 2 pod for 3 nights at low season, to £55 for a family pod at the height of the summer, again
for a minimum 3 night stay. Whether you have just a 2 man tent on your walking holiday, or a large campervan that requires an electric hookup and hard standing, you will want to find just the right campsite on Dartmoor National Park.
