Brook Farmhouse bed and breakfast in Devon review by Jill Pendleton

If you are really quick, you can book to stay at Brook Farmhouse and see these little beauties before they grow.

Well it is a farmhouse in the heart of the Devonshire countryside. What better accessories could there possibly be
for a bed and breakfast. Everywhere I look there are suitable pictures to be taken for the Country Living magazine.

Indoors the theme continues and weary travellers relax with a pot of tea and home made biscuits in no time at all.

Before I went to see Penny at Brook Farmhouse I'd thought that she only had the one bedroom on offer, which is not quite the case, but as the three bedrooms she does have all share one bathroom and one landing and the large comfortable guest lounge, she sensibly only lets to one party at any time. That means that the party might take all three rooms if booked as one. This super vast country bedroom (above) with window peeping out from under the thatched roof.

In fact if you look at the house photo, the guest accommodation is all here below, to the right of the chimneystack.

Inside and out are both tidy and I immediately think that the price for a night's stay in the main bedroom is spot
on at £40 per person for bed and breakfast. The furnishings are classy and the house has a lovely family feel.

Penny will discuss prices for the size of your party if you are more than two. There is a proper cot which was made
up in the main bedroom ready for a family of guests about to arrive later in the day.

Fresh fruit is waiting for these lucky guests and fresh flowers from the garden are in the room.

The second bedroom is also a joy. Lift the original latch on the door and settle in. Out of shot is a large wardrobe,

an easy chair and of course a refreshment tray with kettle. The walls are thick, stout and ancient.

For breakfast it's a full English with fresh eggs or a Continental breakfast with homemade preserves.

This is the small double room at the top of the staircase. Ok you can only get into bed from one side, but
Penny's grandchildren love it, and I can imagine that Granny herself would be fine here.

This is the guest lounge, where Penny serves breakfast. The smaller door on the back wall opens to your own
very steep spiralling staircase, very tight and equipped with a couple of sensibly placed grab rails.

These two fat pink cushions face the ancient fireplace and the real fire. There are plenty of good eating places within
a short drive, so when get back you can curl up in front of the telly planning what's on the cards for tomorrow.

I can most heartily recommend Brook Farmhouse bed and breakfast. You might find the odd cobweb, but only because it's been spun in the past 24 hours! What you will find is quality bedding, a genuine welcome and a place to unwind.
