Monkstone Cottage at Brentor self catering review by Jill Pendleton
Visited on Friday 24th June 2011.

Monkstone Cottage, a self catering cottage at Brentor in Devon.

Jeanette Emmett was keen that I know how close to Brentor her self catering let actually is, so without further ado -

The church of St. michael de Rupe as seen from Monkstone cottage window.A cream tea outside in the garden at Monkstone self catering cottage.

here is a picture that Rob took from the cottage. We called on a rather dull day in June to see this sleeps two cottage

that has been on my books for some time. The best time for me to see a holiday let is in that hectic few hours called "changeover" between one set of guests and the next, and Jeanette had this cottage up and ready with a cream tea

Fresh strawberries, scones, home made jam and clotted cream await guests who visit.

plus fresh strawberries in time for me to take pictures and see it as guests do when they arrive.

the sitting room which has a real fire and granite flooring.
And guests will be very pleased to step inside this solid building with it's traditional style interior.
Cool in the summer, warm in the cooler months. Curl up by the real fire in the Winter.

the garden furniture with countryside view beyond at Monkstone Cottage.

Big plus factors for me are the French doors that look downhill over the rural view, and the fact that guests
can step outside to the private garden space at the back of the cottage to enjoy the peace and quiet.

the double bedroom with high ceiling showing the original beams exposed.the modern bathroom with shower enclosure over the bath.

Super exposed beams, give height and space throughout. The bathroom has a shower with screen over the bath.

a large mosaic type mirrow over the sink in the bathroom, showing the heated towel rail and white cotton towels.

Towels and bed linen is included in the price.

this is a view of the well equipped kitchen with the sitting room beyond. the granite slabs on the floor run through both rooms and beyond.

Giant granite flagstones cover the living room and kitchen floors. And as you can see the kitchen is modern.
There is a hidden washing machine to the left of the cooker, with a washing line just outside the kitchen door.
Electricity and central heating is included in the rental, along with a basket of logs.

the fire ablaze in the grate, with comfy settee and armchair in reach.  next to the logbasket is a modern flatscreen tv.

The cottage is just over the yard from the original farm, but it is not overlooked and the rear of the cottage has it's

own space as I mentioned above. If you are bringing a dog, the charge is £20 for the week, and dog owners

will be pleased to find that the garden is fenced with chicken wire up to about 3 feet. This is one of two cottages

that are on this farm. Hopefully I will have time soon to show you the pics and a review of the other one.
Brentor is not in the heart of Dartmoor, but it is well placed for folks who might like to take in the delights of

Plymouth, and be in range of the south Cornwall coast. Tavistock is not far, and Looe and Fowey are both easy drives.
