Devon Youth Hostels - great budget accommodation
Do you know what to expect in a youth hostel ?
At YHA hostels accommodation is usually in comfortable bunk-bedded rooms, sharing with people of the same sex
and most locations offer smaller private rooms for couples and families, sometimes with en-suite facilities. Kitchen facilities, clean bed linen, pillows, duvet and blankets are provided free of charge. You make up your own bed.
Drying rooms and a cycle store are provided. The YHA has a scale of star ratings on facilities, decor and food
on offer but don't think that the highest rated are necessarily the best to stay at.
The great thing about hostelling is that you will meet lots of like minded folk, who will know that your feet
(or bottom bones if you are on a bike) are sore and that all you want to do is have a hot drink, take a shower
and change at least one item of clothing before you eat something "as soon as". Someone will be able to point you in the right direction on your map, and likely as not they will provide you with some amiable company if there's a pub handy.
Friendly staff with a nice dining area. Very clean and well organised. 102 Beds plus Family Rooms. Open all year, reception is manned from 8am to 10am and from 5pm to 10pm. Providing low cost accommodation at the Plume of Feathers Inn. (by the mini roundabout) It is open all year and can house 42.
You can also camp at a site at the back of the pub. I recommend that you book well in advance in the bunkhouse as it gets full in Summer with backpackers from all over the world.

Two barns sleeping up to 12 in 2 seperate bunkrooms with toilets, showers, heating and kitchen. But crockery and cutlery, pots and pans are not provided, so you must supply your own. There is a nearby Post Office with shop for food
and a nearby pub.

available to parties on a 'per person
per night' basis at £6.00. Or on a 'sole use' basis as part of a group for £72.00.
An ideal choice if you are planning to start the Two Moors Way walk from south to North. Bunkhouse with washing up area, laundry with drying room, excellent disabled facilities and an option to take cooked meals if you wish. Bus and train less than a mile and a half away, and OPEN ALL YEAR. Dormitory accommodation with bunkbeds plus kitchen and showers. Camping on the farm. And this is a farm where you are allowed to make a small campfire and enjoy a BBQ. Great !

In the centre of Princetown, high on the Moor. This bunkhouse can house up to 12 in 3 rooms of 4. Bedding/towels not provided, but available for hire. C.H.+ some self catering with sink, fridge, cooker, microwave and all important toaster. This is a licensed cafe, so packed lunches are not a problem. Drying room, bike storage and they will take dogs if you hire the whole bedroom. Car park. I have not met up with the new owners yet, but look forward to meeting them soon.Jill

Comfortable barn bunkhouses sleeping up to 35. All you need is to do is BRING A SLEEPING BAG and £1 coins for the meters for electric (heaters, cookers and kettles). Instructors are available for all kinds of outdoor activities.

YHA Member. This is a very basic bunkhouse, but I visited on 20th april this year and it was being given a fresh lick of paint. All was clean, and if the weather turns nasty it will be a haven of delight to a weary wet walker. Situated at the Fox & Hounds Hotel. Hostel style accommodation with 2 bunk bedded rooms 3 sets of bunks in each.So able to sleep up to 12 overnight visitors in total. NO KITCHEN OR CATERING FACILITIES. The Fox and Hounds right next door serves breakfasts and good pub food. Parking, hot water and showers available. TV lounge too. Camping is also on offer in a huge field behind the pub. If you were bringing a large party to camp, then I suggest that this bunkhouse with it's large bar room downstairs would be very as your base. And at £96 for the night, the cost is nice and low.

I visited Sparrowhawk Backpackers on the 7th of July last year to meet Alison for the first time, and really liked what I saw. Backpackers is a well organised hostel in barn and flowery enclosed courtyard at the rear of her house which takes groups, families and singles. With dormitory accommodation plus a double/family bedroom. Bedding is provided. Solar heated showers, bike storage, and bbq all in.
