The Buller's Arms Chagford Food Review
Food review The Buller's Arms, Chagford. April 27th 2008 Telephone 01647 432348
On 27th of April we took a Japanese friend Mitzui along to The Bullers with us to show her what carvery is all
about. The pub is a popular local, and there are familiar faces chatting in the front of the pub. Maurice the

landlord is behind the bar, and folks come and go.Some banter, a snatch of town gossip. Families arrive with small children and make for the dining room at the back. The undoubted star of the show is Wendy, the landlady.
She dutifully slices off generous portions as requested. And if like us, the choice between pork and beef is just too difficult to make, because they both look utterly wonderful, she kindly gives you a large portion of each... along
with stuffing and Yorkshire puddings just out of the oven.... The queue of diners seems to be at a perpetual 6 deep,
but all the time, kitchen staff arrive with fresh panfuls of newly cooked vegetables. No rush, friendly conversation,

excellent bar food...what could be better ? Sorry we arrived on the only day the
Yorkshires got burnt, Wendy...you might have thought that they
didn't come up to scratch, but hey... look at our plates.
The meat was tender, and full of flavour, the gravy too.
Real roast potatoes, red cabbage, apple sauce for the pork.
Happy faces all round.
Reasonably priced at £7.95, OAPs and children
get away with £5.95 and you can even fill a 'carvery roll'
for £2.75. and a nut roast on offer for the veggies.
They carry on serving until the meat runs out.... which says it all.
During the Summer, you can sit outside in the enclosed yard.
Mitsui thought it was a very British experience, and with impeccable
Japanese manners, she sought Wendy out to thank her... Result !!
