Sunday 18th December Would Santa rate the food at the Post Inn, Whiddon Down, now that the new landlord
and landlady Bob and Mandy are in place? Yes, I rather think he would. Click here to read my Post Inn food review.

taste of the West Gold Award logo

Friday 14th October: Here's great news that The New Forge in Chagford have just
won the Taste of the West Gold award for this year. Chloe and Lei have worked hard

in the popular cafe since taking over last year. Take a look at their website to catch
a flavour of the place. It really is that fresh and appealing.

Rob and I are off to have a flu jabs this morning, I think that we'll reward ourselves by calling in for lunch there and treating ourselves to their excellent Club Sandwich
followed by the very yummy chocolate cake that they make.
I see that the prestigious Gidleigh Park Hotel also won one of only 4 gold award
for Restaurants in the Devon section. Chagford is well worth a visit for keen foodies.

cartoon sprig of holly to represent ChristmasFriday 7th October. The Globe Inn in Chagford have e-mailed me a copy of their Christmas
menu for this year. It all looks very tempting, with four choices for each course. My personal selection would be Prawn, crab and avocado timbale to start, traditional turkey with
roast potatoes, pan fried sprouts with bacon and flaked almonds with pigs in blankets for the mains,
and Cherry Brandy and Black Cherry Truffle served with cream to follow. Price ? £18 for 2 courses and £21.50 for 2.
I plan to try it out some time in the near future, so will let you know what I think. Click here to see the full menu.

pork kebabs on wooden skewers by Andy Martin, Butcher in Chagford.

Monday 20th September If you are self catering on Dartmoor, then you won't want to miss the fabulous kebabs on offer
at Martin's family butcher in Chagford. Andy makes them with best pork and his own special mix of barbecue spices.
I made the mistake of thinking that we would need a couple each, when one is ample. I popped mine into the aga with
the skewers ends over the edges of a stainless steel pan to catch the juices as they ran off. Mouth wateringly good!

wine glasses and a bottle of Rioja at 22 Mill Street in Chagford, Devon

Something for Foodie Folks to add to their diaries..... this Summer on the 4th of August.

Wine Tasting Evening at 22 Mill Street Restaurant in Chagford starting at 7.30pm. Working in conjunction with Wine Merchant, 'Charles Steevenson Wines', 22 Mill St is delighted to be hosting a ‘Tutored Wine Tasting’ supper event.
With his extensive knowledge and vast experience, Charles will take diners through the fundamental and intriguing aspects of the 'World of Wine', and hopefully de-mystify the complexities of wines, which can so often confuse.
Once the informative and informal pre supper tasting is concluded, the Maitre d’ will invite you to Supper, where you will be served the culinary delights 22 Mill street is renowned for, enjoying a sumptuous Chef’s seasonal four course set dinner menu comprising of – appetiser, starter, main and dessert. The meal will be accompanied by "flights of wine" which have been selected to compliment the cuisine. For further information on how to book a space click here.

a vegetarian dish - a deep fat fried Rosti on a white plate decorated with fresh herbs.

Saturday 5th of March. Despite the freezing cold weather the 3rd Moretonhampstead Food Festival was a great success. With mouthwatering demonstations by Michael Caines of Gidleigh Park Hotel and Wayne Pearson from the Mill End Hotel.

A smiling Wayne Pearson holding up the finished rosti at a food demonstration.
Wayne showed us how to make the perfect Rosti for vegetarians. Lucky us, we are soon to take Sunday lunch at

the hotel, and now that we have seen Wayne in action, that will make the trip all the more enjoyable.
