Dartmoor Devon B&B's, Hotels, Self-catering, Camping & Youth Hostels and Camping Barns A trip to South Heathercombe for a Devonshire Cream Tea.Friday 5th August. Cream tea at South Heathercombe bed and breakfast. Review by Jill Pendleton.
I can't quite make my mind up what to rave about first. The garden, the enchanting new puppy or the cream tea.
Jane and Helen had been housesitting at a neighbour's house and I asked them if they would like to come and take
Heathercombe is a tranquil valley on the south of the Moor not far from Widecombe, where over the years, Martin and Colette at South Heathcombe, part of the estate, offer the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing pot of tea in a very pretty sloping garden with a wooden chalet style tea room.
Not only can Colette cook a tasty full English breakfast using organic produce, she also turns out a pretty mean
But the sun refuses to shine, so we opt for an indoor table and Colette soon moves the feast indoors for us.
These fabulous hollyhocks climb up the side of the bed and breakfast.
There is a short sets of steps to cope with on the way up to the tea room, and another one to reach the higher garden beyond. Established woods surround the property and the whole area is quiet and away from traffic.
Starting on September the 3rd, the estate has a sculpture trail called Edge. Details on my September Diary page.
Thank you Martin and Colette for the warm welcome, the cream tea and for managing to babysit your adorable new puppy. You make it all look so easy, but I know it's not, especially all the hard work of weeding at this time of year.
My neighbour Sylvia was very impressed, so watch out for her and her pals paying you another visit any day soon.
You can find South Heathercombe bed and breakfast details on my Widecombe page, and on the child friendly page. Oh and of course I would most earnestly recommend it to garden lovers. Easy parking is at the side of the house.
