Moretonhampstead
Moreton as we locals know it, is a crossroad town on the A382. It's a busy little place in the Summer months with
much to commend it. There seems to be bunting aloft for a large part of the season, whether to announce the coming
of the wonderful annual carnival in August, or for the Moreton food fair in March. Don't miss a quick look a the almshouses (National Trust) in Court Street, a short walk from the centre. There a good and popular outdoor
swimming pool, a dispensing chemist, a Co-op supermarket, two butchers and several tea rooms in the town.

At last I have paid Penny at Brook Farmhouse a visit. (Oct '11) and I absolutely loved it! Ancient thatched farmhouse full of charm. Homemade biscuits to have with your tea. Easy access into Exeter. I thought that it had only one bedroom on offer, but actually there are three bedrooms which Penny will only let to one party, so it is most frequently used just as a double. But apart from the huge main bedroom there is another spacious double and a child's bedroom, again with a double bed on offer. They share one bathroom, but a great space at the top of your own private, steep, charming staircase plus your own guest lounge.

Camping and Hostels in the Moretonhampstead area
I visited Sparrowhawk Backpackers on the 7th of July last year to meet Alison for the first time, and really liked what I saw. Backpackers is a well organised hostel in barn and flowery enclosed courtyard at the rear of her house which takes groups, families and singles. With dormitory accommodation plus a double/family bedroom. Bedding is provided. Solar heated showers, bike storage, and bbq all in.
