Civil wedding ceremonies on Dartmoor in Devon.

Enjoy a civil marriage ceremony at the following locations :-
All the locations listed below hold a licence for civil weddings:-

Holne Park House near to Ashburton is licenced for civil weddings. The hotel has 5 reception rooms and can take over 200 guests in house or for larger receptions the pavillion can accommodate 300 seated and 500 as a buffet.
They currently have an offer running for a midweek wedding for £2000. With the music room for the civil ceremony,
a three course wedding breakfast for up to 20 guests plus the bride and groom and the bridal suite for one night.
The offer is available for Monday to Thursday weddings but click onto their website to find out more. The gardens are lovely for wedding photos and if you have youngsters attending the wedding they will soon be off into the surrounding River Dart Country Adventure Park instead of sitting through what they will no doubt consider to be boring speeches.

Gidleigh Park Hotel, near to Chagford is licenced for civil ceremonies. For truly upmarket occassions and weddings.
The two adjoining dining rooms can accommodate up to 42 guests. And should you need a smaller party choice, they have a wonderful function room that leads out on to the terrace, which offers the perfect spot for a wedding breakfast
of up to 16 guests. Ideal for a wedding party looking for somewhere special where a small number of guests can be
totally cossetted. Again one of my favourite places to take photos when I am asked to cover a wedding.

I am very happy covering marriages at the Mill End Hotel which is now licenced as a wedding venue.
Two rooms are licenced at the hotel, the one on the first floor can seat 24, so it is also an ideal venue for a smaller
more intimate wedding reception, and the larger sitting room (above) can easily take 50 plus standing guests, with
a view to a party in a marquee later in the large pretty garden. They also offer the most wonderful cream teas
(click to see my review) so you might consider an afternoon reception then a marquee evening party.
They have yet to organise their wedding website, but if you would like a sample cd of 50 wedding photos
that I have taken at the hotel then drop me an e-mail and I will post to you.

Prince Hall Hotel Take my advice if you are looking for a reception venue for a smaller party, do go and say hello
to Fi at the Prince Hall because this hotel is the perfect location for a smaller swish reception.
She tells me that she can cater for up to 24. The chef knows his stuff and they serve excellent cream teas.
I love the dining room with it's view over the river. Plenty of rooms here for a smart sit down feast. Do take a look
at my hotel review of the Prince Hall, so that you can see the 2 sitting rooms that also look out on the fine view.

The Globe Inn at Chagford, even closer to the church than the Three Crowns ! Large private room at the rear.

The Edgemoor Hotel near to Bovey Tracey is licenced for civil ceremonies and can host a sit down reception
of 100 guests and a buffet reception of up to 150. In the heart of the country with a super garden.

Browns Hotel at Tavistock. In the town. Can cater for up to 150 guests. Sample price in their special offers deal for 40 guests, a toast and a Devon cream tea with scones, jam and cream including tea is £599. Lots of info on their website.

Monks Withecombe near to Murchington. Licenced for a civil ceremony with space for any size of marquee. A country location for a wedding. It has a fantastic garden, a courtyard bursting with Spring and Summer flowers and a large
smart indoor gallery for the ceremony. One of my favourite venues when I am asked to take photos at a wedding.

The Moorlands Link Hotel at Yelverton is now called the Moorland Garden Hotel and has new owners who I know
will bring the hotel up to date and into another league. Great news ! For weddings of up to 160 guests, 200 at an
evening celebration party, and a choice of 3 already much improved licenced rooms.
The Dartmoor Lodge in Ashburton now holds a Civil Marriage licence. Their package at £1950 is tailored for 40 guests
at the wedding breakfast and 80 guests for an evening celebration. Extra guests are on a pro rata basis.

You can get married at Canonteign Estate with the Falls in the Teign Valley with England's highest waterfall
as your backdrop with a choice of catering options for guests numbering from 8 to 300 including the lakeside.

The Horn of Plenty at Tavistock. A pretty setting with choice of 3 ceremony rooms for a civil ceremony if you wish.
Plenty of space in the garden for a marquee up to 200 guests with
a good view over the Tamar Valley (pic above).
Mount Tavy Cottage at Tavistock. Civil licence now in place. Details on their website soon.
Okehampton Town Hall. In the town centre.
Bovey Castle at Moretonhampstead is licenced to hold weddings.
The White Hart Hotel in the heart of Moretonhampstead holds a licence to conduct marriages.
Lavender House Hotel at Ashburton has a function suite that will accommodate approximately 150 guests
both for the ceremony and for a sit down meal. they also offer a Garden Ceremony using a Gazebo.
