From Saturday 15th January to Sunday 27th February The 'Get Fresh' Exhibition at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen at Bovey Tracey. Showcasing the work of emerging designer-makers from the South West. The freshest, most exciting new makers from the South West have been selected to exhibit contemporary designs in print, wood, textiles, glass, and resin. Natural resources and traditional media are combined with challenging, conceptual approaches confirming the region's strong creative output. The 17 exhibitors feature James Otter's digitally carved, hollow-wood surfboards, New Designers (2010) winner Lucy Foakes' 'Elvis' souvenirs made from acrylic and ceramic and Ashley Buttle's poignant, social photography. Wednesday 2nd February Bugs and beasties up close. From 8pm. Come and handle Reptobug′s collection of spiders, scorpions, snakes and giant bugs at the Parish Church Cente, in Plymouth Road in Tavistock (next to the Bedford Hotel). £3 including refreshments, plus donations are welcome. Sunday 6th February A chance to get your hands busy. From 10 'til 4.30p.m. Pottery Day at Moretonhampstead at the Barn Pottery. Would you like to learn how to make a pot? Come and enjoy a messy and creative day at Moretonhampstead! Have fun with different types of pottery including the wheel. Pottery Workshop with Sabine Nemet. A one-day workshop designed to give you an introduction into two pottery making techniques. You will learn to make a simple pot out of slabs and you will have the opportunity to throw on the potter's wheel. A fun day to get covered in clay! All materials provided. Tuesday 15th February Manaton village market is held on each third Tuesday of the month where you can buy lots of local goods including cakes, puddings and pies, honey, fresh eggs, cheese, meat from local farms, pork, lamb, bacon, even locally made fudge. Wednesday 16th February Saving the Fritillary Butterfies of Dartmoor, an illustrated talk given by Jenny Plackett, the project manager, showing how this project has been working to restore the fortunes for the high brown, marsh and heath fritillary butterflies on Dartmoor. Saturday 19th February in the Jubilee Hall, GrowChagford Cabaret Extravaganza. Doors open from7pm for 7.30 start. Up to ten acts of locally grown talent to include :- The Wild Violets, Phil Fowler, The Nosy Crows and Nicky Scott. All welcome and dressing up encouraged! Bar with local Champagne, Wine and Beers. The food includes an artisan local cheese or vegan ploughman. Wednesday 23rd February 11am-3.30pm: Scarecrow Day at Parke, Bovey Tracey. Make your own scarecrow! Sessions starting at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm. The winner of each session will win a prize and their scarecrow will work in the walled garden. Some materials will be supplied, but please bring anything you think might be useful.
