From Saturday 14th January to Sunday 26th February At the Devon Guild of Craftsmen in Bovey Tracey. A FREE exhibition open daily. 10am-5.30pm. An exciting exhibition of new work by the Quilt Art group. Expressing their own unique voice, each professional quilt maker had the freedom to produce individual quilt work without the restrictions of a set theme or size. Their work is unified by the shared vision of Quilt Art; to extend the boundaries of quilting as an artistic medium and achieve wider recognition of the quilt as an art form. Friday 3rd February Death on the Prom, a Murder Mystery Evening by The Tavonians Theatre Company. Actors will help investigate a seaside murder whilst guests enjoy a superb 3 course dinner in the elegant surroundings of The Terrace Restaurant in Tavistock tonight. Tickets are £25 to include all three courses. This evening promises to be a lot of fun and you might like to get into the spirit of the occasion by dressing in the costume of the period. Sunday 5th February Please join us the Dartmoor Arts Project, at The Drewe Arms, Drewsteignton for a screening of 1929 silent movie, Piccadilly with live music by Wurlitza. “A film noir before the term was in use, Piccadilly is one of the true greats of British silent films” Starts at 7pm and the cost is £7.50 with free popcorn.
Wednesday 8th February A talk on Sharks – threats and challenges for a sustainable future. At the Parish Church Centre, Plymouth Road, Tavistock (next to the Bedford Hotel). Saturday 11th February Help is needed by the Devon Wildlife Trust at Halsdon Nature Reserve today, Saturday. 14 miles north of Okehampton, the trust is looking for willing volunteers to come and help with some rewarding practical work at the reserve. The markets take place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays each month 9 til 1 Everything on sale is produced locally, meat, cheese, bread and cakes, fresh vegetables, and stallholders are the farmers, growers or producers themselves. There is also an annual Christmas market in December. take a look at the market website or ltake a look at all of the farmer's markets in the Dartmoor area.

Monday 13th February Starting at 7.30pm Drewsteignton Gardeners Club will hold a Gardener's Question Time at the village hall. John Rippon from Drogo and Barry Starling will be there to answer your questions and to talk over the highs and lows of the 2011 gardening year. Do try and come. It will be a fun and informal gathering, and sure to be enjoyable. Everyone is welcome (non-members £1 donation).
From Tuesday 14th February to Sunday 19th February Tropicana Holiday on Ice at Westpoint at Exeter. This year's show is called the Passion Tour. Lavish entertainment with speed, grace and style. A marriage of thrills and spills. Tropicana website for tickets - but beware of the £10 booking fee !!
Tuesday 14th February I've had a note about Valentines Night at The Globe Inn, Chagford. They email - The leap year tradition say's that the lady may propose to her man. A free bottle of bubbly to any brave ladies who make the move at the Globe Inn. Spend a romantic evening with your loved one, candles, flowers and romantic music. Special lover's four course dinner and a gift for the ladies. I had a quick glance at the menu and it offers such delights as tomato and mozzarella stack, fillet of beef with sweet potato rosti and kiwi and passion fruit trifle. Sounds good to me. 3 courses plus coffee with petits fours and romantic music playing throughout the evening. All for £29.95 per head. The Globe Inn website.

Tuesday 21st February Manaton village holds a market on each third Tuesday of the month where you can buy lots of local goods including cakes, puddings and pies, honey, fresh eggs, cheese, meat from local farms, pork, lamb, bacon, even locally made fudge. Get yourselves along to the Parish Hall to find all these goodies. Open from 10.30 to 12.30. From Friday 24th February to Monday 26th March Devon Guild of Craftsmen exhibition 'Tracing the Blueprint'. Free entry to find out about ‘Blaudruck’, the resist printed indigo fabric of Eastern Europe, has a fascinating social history. Using photographs, words, cloth samples and clothing, Tracing the Blueprint describes historic and current craft production in Hungary and how these small white on blue patterns made their way via trade, settlers and the Manchester printers to Southern Africa.
