a kite in the shape of a seagull, up in the blue sky. a ladybug kite, a single line buzzer kite. one of the more exciting stunt kites up in the blue sky. a diamond kite, nice and colourful in the sky.
Starting with a suggestion of kite flying with the kids, January is usually a slow start to the year, but how about a
visit to Castle Drogo with the children early on for a Wind down and Warm up experience, of a trip to see the Dunsford Pantomime from the 8th to the 15th? Later on in the month the Devon Guild of Craftsmen at Bovey Tracey has a free exhibition on show, and I strongly advise anyone with a love of handicrafts to go along.
Bargain hunters who enjoys auctions will certainly appreciate our Dartmoor Auctioneer's first auction of the year at Chagford.
And of course the Farmers Markets and Flea Markets are always of interest.

Saturday 1st January If the weather is good enough then take the family off to Hound Tor car park and let the kids go wild with a kite. They higher they walk up to the rocks, the more lift they will give their kites and it's terrific fun all round. My only advice is that you take at least 2 kites for a party of 3 people, or else you will all argue. In fact the highter ratio of kites in the party, the better. And when you have all had a bit of exercise and you need a hot drink, then queue up at the Hound of the Basketmeals van for a good sized mug of hot chocolate and a chunk of their home made cake. If you haven't got a kite, then click on any photo of a kite which will take you to the correct page on Amazon, and hopefully you will be able order it in time to join in the fun.

Saturday 15th January in The Long Room, Drewe Arms, Drewsteignton. £6. Doors open at 8.30 p.m for a 9 o'clock start. Come along and meet the FREAK BRUVVERS. That's Brian and Chris who've been gigging together for 15 years, taking classic rock and blues songs and blasting them out on just two acoustic guitars in their talented idiosyncratic style. They've played at most of the Volkswagon festivals and shows across the country (Chris runs his own business designing and building VW camper van interiors) and they've also supported the legendary Hawkwind. Their covers include The Stones, Hendrix, Clapton, Peter Green and they also throw in some of their own material. No backing tracks just pure as it comes live music. Plus the irrepressible MONKEY GLAND BLUES BAND An unforgettable, energetic 4 piece from deepest darkest torsville (Okehampton), playing raw R + B originals and concise 3 minute punked up classic blues covers. Think Captain Beefheart, Howlin Wolf, and very early Stones all mixed up with slashing guitar and wailing harmonica for something a little different from the "Same Old Blues" again.
