Sunday 1st January If the weather is good enough then take the family off to Hound Tor car park and let the kids go wild with a kite. They higher they walk up to the rocks, the more lift they will give their kites and it's terrific fun all round.

From Saturday 7th January to Saturday 14th January the Dunsford Amateur Dramatic Society will once again be staging one of their excellent pantomimes in the village hall. (between Moretonhampstead and Exeter) This year's panto is Sleeping Beauty. There will be Saturday matinees at 2.30pm and nightly shows (except Sunday) at 7.45pm. From Saturday 14th January to Sunday 26th February At the Devon Guild of Craftsmen in Bovey Tracey. A FREE exhibition open daily. 10am-5.30pm. An exciting exhibition of new work by the Quilt Art group. Expressing their own unique voice, each professional quilt maker had the freedom to produce individual quilt work without the restrictions of a set theme or size. Their work is unified by the shared vision of Quilt Art; to extend the boundaries of quilting as an artistic medium and achieve wider recognition of the quilt as an art form. Saturday 14th January Tavistock Farmer's Market at Bedford Square. The markets take place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays each month 9 til 1 Everything on sale is produced locally, meat, cheese, bread and cakes, fresh vegetables, and stallholders are the farmers, growers or producers themselves. There is also an annual Christmas market in December. take a look at the market website or ltake a look at all of the farmer's markets in the Dartmoor area.
Tuesday 17th January Manaton village holds a market on each third Tuesday of the month where you can buy lots of local goods including cakes, puddings and pies, honey, fresh eggs, cheese, meat from local farms, pork, lamb, bacon, even locally made fudge. Get yourselves along to the Parish Hall to find all these goodies. Open from 10.30 to 12.30. Saturday 21st January Everyone welcome to a Burns Night Special with Jiggerypipery, a highly charged Celtic folk rock band. Playing at The Drewe Arms, in Drewsteignton. An original mix of original music and traditional tunes. Saturday 21st January Plenty of interesting lots coming under the hammer at Dartmoor Auctioneer's the Spring Auction at the Jubilee hall in Chagford today. Antiques, jewellery, household items, pictures, silverware, even a harpsichord at the last auction. Family heirlooms that have been kept in tissue paper for years and costume jewellery as well as lamps, teasets, the odd barometer and warming pan. Refreshments are available including home made cake and very tasty bacon rolls. It's always interesting. See you there but please don't bid against me !!
