Thursday 3rd March Starting at 9am to 1pm Buckfastleigh Farmers Market at the Town Hall, every Thursday near the Globe Inn, in the town Centre. Buy local vegetables, plants, flowers, meat and other produce from local Dartmoor suppliers. Refreshments available throughout the morning.
Friday 4th March Colourful flea market at Chagford. Grand little market at Chagford up to 1 o'clock. Full of interesting 'stuff', home made cakes, second hand goods and local traders in the Jubilee Hall next to the car park. Refreshments available. More info on the Flea Market website
Friday 4th March Quiz night on behalf of friends of Chagford School. 7.15 for 7.30 prompt start. Refreshments and bar available. Prizes for top and bottom players. £5 includes sandwiches and nibbles. Tickets from Sally's, School Office or on the door. So get those grey cells woken up and come along for some fun. From Saturday 5th March to Sunday 6th March 11am-4pm Pre-Season Open Weekend at Castle Drogo, the National Trust venue near to Chagford. Saturday 5th March Moretonhampstead Festival of food, drink and the arts will be held in Moretonhampstead town with excellent local food on offer, cookery demonstrations, including this year from the Riverford Kitchen. 100 stalls with food and produce from the South West in abundance. Michael Caines will open the event, which starts at 9.30 and runs until 5. Cogs and Wheels lady morris dancers will be there to entertain and it all promises to be a day of taste and colour. Monday 7th March Pub Quiz at the Bullers Arms in Chagford. 8.30 for 9pm start. Why not enjoy a meal off our daily specials board at the start of your evening? We make a pretty mean quarterpounder. Beginning at the family friendly time of 6pm. we invite families to join us, when the children will have the opportunity to create their own pancakes with Sally, and to enjoy some board games with friends. Adults £5 savoury and sweet pancakes, plus refreshments) Donations are invited to cover the cost of children's supper. Wednesday 9th March 10.30am to 4pm Digital Photography Workshop at Castle Drogo, near Chagford. Want to understand your camera better and capture great images? Enjoy an informative day with local photographer Adrian Oakes, learning how to get the very best from your digital camera. The workshop includes power point presentations using a high resolution projector, practical sessions, photography techniques, composition, understanding depth of field, using RAW, filters, macro, how to shoot panoramas, the best equipment to use, discussions and a chance to try out various camera equipment. From Saturday 12th March to Monday 25th April Up Close, an exhibition of printmaking from across the UK presented by the Devon Guild of Craftsmen at Bovey Tracey. This will be the first solely 2D exhibition the Jubilee Gallery has mounted since opening in 2004.Selected by Michael Honnor, painter and printmaker and Richard Anderton MA (Printmaking course leader at the University of the West of England) - each exhibitor has worked to the same parameters of frame. It is hoped that each maker will experiment within the prescribed size to produce exciting and widely varying works, allowing visitors to get up close to innovative handmade printmaking. Saturday 12th March From 10 to 12 noon, there will be the first of hopefully many Produce and Craft markets at the Church House in South Tawton. Sunday 13th March A garden open for charity today at Staverton, just south of Dartmoor, postcode TQ9 6AR. From 2 - 6 p.m. A George II 1735 house Grade II (not open)with gardens restored in keeping with the period. Walled garden, rose garden, pleached limes and hornbeams, vegetable garden. It has an unusual formal garden with santolinas, lavender and camomile with a large formal parterre. The plan is that there will be 6000 tulips in bloom mid-May ! Here's hoping. Visitors also welcome by appointment , coaches also by prior appointment.
Monday 14th March Eyes down for a Bingo lunch from 12 noon at The Bullers Arms in Chagford. Have a spot of lunch, a cup of tea or coffee and a game of bingo all for under £7.
Tuesday 15th March Manaton village market is held on each third Tuesday of the month where you can buy lots of local goods including cakes, puddings and pies, honey, fresh eggs, cheese, meat from local farms, pork, lamb, bacon, even locally made fudge. Wednesday 16th March 7.30 to 9.30 pm 'Around Britain in 80 minutes' at Bovey Tracey. Saturday 26th March from 10 to 4pm . Come along to the South West Alpine Flower Show. The Alpine Garden Society Exeter Group will be holding a National flower show with hundreds of alpines and rock plants, at St Lukes High School in Hart's Lane, off Hill Barton Road, Exeter EX1 3RD on the Pinhoe road, next to Sainsbury's. Admission £2.00 (AGS members free). There will be 13 nursery stands, refreshments plus free parking. And this year, a stall selling new and secondhand books. Saturday 26th March From 10 ’til 12 noon. A produce market at Whiddon Down with fresh poultry, plants, fresh fish, chees and home baked cakes. Saturday 26th March Two films will be on show in Chagford today. The first one will be starting at 5.30pm. in the Jubilee Hall. Come along to see the Chagford Premiere and DVD release of Peerifool, a thrilling fairy tale from the Orkneys with a gutsy little heroine where three little girls outwit an ogre. A 40 min film by the Chagford Filmmaking Group with local children. Tickets from Sallys Newsagent, online or on the door £5 for adults. Children under 16 are invited in for free. See the Fairy Tale Films website. Later on in the day at 7.30 pm COTTAGE ON DARTMOOR. A classic British silent film directed by Anthony Asquith with live harp accompaniment performed by Elizabeth-Jane Baldry. Tickets £8. Please note this film is not suitable for children.
Sunday 27th March 11.00 am UK Premiér of SIR LANVAL. At the Exeter Picturehouse cinema. Adults £8. Children £5.50. A first feature film from the Chagford Filmmaking Group set on Dartmoor and in Brittany, about a knight from King Arthur's Court who falls in love with a fairy.
