1½ miles from Moretonhampstead, a detached cottage converted from an ancient barn, with private hot tub and good views across fields to Dartmoor. Next door to the friendly owners’ farmhouse, once the homestead of a small estate, and set high on hills overlooking the valley that stretches along this edge of Dartmoor. It’s a smart, warm, efficient and peaceful place with south-west facing patio and mainly lawned, enclosed, private sunny garden (picnic table, barbecue).
Glazed door to open-plan living/dining/kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with woodburner and TV/DVD; loo. Upstairs, two bedrooms under the eaves – a double (zip-linked 6’ bed or twin) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath), and a twin (zip-linkable to 6’ double, limited clothes-hanging space) with en suite shower-room (suite). Local produce available from the owners. Spring water.A great base for walking or for simply enjoying the tranquillity.

Butterdon Barn was everything and more than we expected. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly and made our stay such a pleasurable one. The barn was really well quipped and the Christmas tree and decorations were an added bonus. The wood burner had been lit for us prior to our arrival which again was an added bonus. Really comfy beds, cosy rooms with everything you need and the kids enjoyed the hot tub. Perfect location for dog walking and generally getting away from it all. We especially liked not having wifi and no phone signal, meant we had more fun playing board games and doing jigsaws together! Would definitely return.
