Buckfastleigh - Just off the A38 on the south of the Moor.

Buckfastleigh has a lot going for it. The most impressive of which is the fabulous Buckfast Abbey (National Trust). Animal lovers mustn't miss the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary. Which just happens to be right next door to the South Devon Railway. Climb aboard the steam train and journey down to Totnes for a super step back in time. You can then take a boat trip down the River Dart to Dartmouth, which is another great experience.

If you have young children then you absolutely must go and see Pennywell, the farm activity centre - take a look at our Discount Vouchers page you will find a bring a friend for free voucher. Open from 10 - 5 each day, it has an undercover play area and lots to see and do for youngsters.  Buckfastleigh has a dispensing chemist on Fore Street and a farmer's market is held every Thursday from 9a.m. to 1p.m in the Town Hall.  The town has an excellent golf course

You'll find us in the heart of Scorriton Village near Buckfastleigh only a 3 mile drive from the A38 Devon Express way. The Tradesmans Arms reopened on the 30th January 2009 after being closed for 14 months.  Now in the hands of present owners, Kevin and Suzanne, The Tradesman's Arms is a traditional country pub with modern styling and a very friendly welcome. Julia and Martin have a quality hideaway here, alongside the main house, but entirely separate, this little cottage is perfect for two. With a king size bed under oak beams and beautiful country garden plus small lake, this has to be one of my top recommendations for a romantic honeymoon on Dartmoor. The pleasant shower room is on the ground floor as the bedroom takes up most of the space up aloft. The kitchen is super too. I love it. Close enough for a steam train ride on the South Devon Railway.

Monday and Tuesday is Steak night, Wednesday Pie night and Friday night is Fish 'n Chips night - in addition to our regular and varied menu.  Woodburner stove on the go in cooler evenings. What more could you wish for ?
